WOODFORD Green Athletic Club with Essex Ladies athlete Daniel Awde moved up a class to win the senior title at a combined event promoted by the club.

Awde, who won the junior title last year, started the competition with 10.96secs for the 100m, followed by a long jump of 6.87m and a shot putt of 11.27m.

His high jump of 1.77m and a superb 400m in 49.50secs, the fastest of the day, saw him in third place after the first day's five events.

One day two, with 14.65secs in the 110m hurdles and 38.78m in the discus, Awde remained in third place.

But a huge win in the pole vault, with an effort of 4.40m, saw him move into the lead.

His javelin throw of 44.8m was the third best of the day and a clear win in the final event, the 1500m in 4mins 41.74secs, put the Woodford youngster on top of the podium.
