MARTIAL ARTS A HUSBAND and wife team are launching a new freestyle martial arts class in Walthamstow from next month.

Jason and Tonya Duck's Titan Freestyle Martial Arts has been established at Tamar Square, Woodford for the past three years.

But the fusion of karate, kick boxing and self-defence classes will be starting at the Peter May Sports Centre, Wadham Road on Wednesday, October 1 at 7pm.

Tonya Duck said: “You get all the fitness benefits, such as improved stamina, muscle tone, strength, balance, faster reflexes and helping to reduce body fat, without the fear of serious injury due to it being only semi-contact as opposed to full.

“However, although it's semi-contact during sparring, we insist that when practicing on pads and kick shields that all their strikes and kicks are full contact. In this way all our students can use full or light contact at will.

“Because our style has a self defence element to it this ensures that our students can produce effective and devastating strikes if ever the need arose.”

Between them the pair have nearly 30 years experience in martial arts, with both winning trophies and medals in karate and kick boxing. Both are Self Defence Federation instructors.

Tonya, after winning gold for both fighting and kata at the 1997 World Martial Arts Council Championships, was chosen to join the UK team.

And it seems their experience and training is starting to rub off on their students, after one of their junior members came third in his category at the recent Cimac Superleague in Windsor.
