Clapton looking to put heavy Millwall defeat behind them
Upper Claptongo into this weekend's fixture looking to banish memories of their thrashing at Millwall as quickly as possible.
Steve Prosser's side slumped to a 50-18 defeat last Saturday, afterholding the leadat half time. Millwallsit just above the drop zone in Essex One, lying second bottom. But Clapton are being sucked in now. The defeat leaves them withonly four more points than Millwall.
This makes Saturday's game away at Writtle Wanderers extra important. Wanderers are third bottom, one place below Clapton. And a defeat for the Thornwood side would bring Writtle level on points, dragging Clapton deeper into the relegation mire.
The last encounter between the two ended in a 10-10 draw. Clapton have lost three of their last games, garnering only one victory. Writtle notched up two wins over the same period.
Reflecting on event Prosser said: "Despite last weeks defeat we go into the game fairly confident of getting a win at Writtle.
"We had a lot of players missing last week and while we played well in the first half it took its toll after the break. But we believe we can secure the points as we will have most people back from injury this Saturday."
