Derby day for Bancroft and Wanstead
BANCROFT and Wansteadmeetin a derby clashthis Saturday, each fired byadesire to get whatthey see astheir just reward.
The Herons were irked to lose out against second placed Maldon last weekend in a close game that ended 17-22. Meanwhile the B's feel aggrieved at having failed to win the previous game between the pair earlier in the campaign. The first match of the season ended in a 32-32 draw
Wanstead skipper Paul Cristofoli said: "We were disappointed to lose against Tring last week, and if we play to the same standard on Saturday we will be fine."
Bancroft coach Steve Baker said: "We are looking for revenge after missing out at home against them last time. We beat them in the same fixturelast season."
His side saw off struggler's Millwalllastweekend, buttheir recent form has been patchy, with defeats to Old Brentwoods and Dagenham torpedoing their promotion hopes.
Baker said: "We want to go for third place and finish on a high rather than see our season petter out."
Cristofolibelieves the two side'sdifferent strengths will make for another classic. He said:"The last game between us very even, we had the better centre forwards and they the superior centre backs.
"We have done well with our backs all season."
The Herons skipper will miss the game, as will flanker Dave Martin.
Bancroft have an lengthy injury list, but it has not limited their ambitions. Baker said: "We are missing six players at the moment, and it has been a test of their replacements, but those guys have stepped in very well. A strong finish would be a great building block for next season."
