Ongar looking to kick 2008 off with a bang

ONGAR's 2008 kicks off with a trip to take on May and Baker in Essex Three on Saturday.
The Love Lane men go into the clash on the back of a home win over Brightlingsea in mid December that turned around a run of three straight defeats. Ongar's victory against their rivals towards the bottom of the table injected a dose of seasonal cheer into their campaign by lifting them above the Seasiders into fourth place.
Their opponents currently stand second, only a single point ahead of Ongar. Worryingly for the visitors, May and Baker have the meanest defence in Essex Three. They have conceded fewer points than runaway leaders Runwell Wyverns. But they have not played a league game since the beginning of last month, and Ongar secured a fine 10-8 victory over them at the start of November.
But Ongar's cause will be buoyed by the availability of almost the entire squad. Captain David Blake said: "We're looking to start the year the same way we ended 2007, with a good league win. "Travelling to May and Baker is always a hard task as they are very strong at home, but the squad are looking to get stuck in and run off that Christmas turkey."
