ETON MANOR sprung a surprise as the London Two North season draws to a close when they dispatched fierce rivals Woodford, 32-8.
The New Wilderness men put a turbulent season behind them as they bulldozed their way past Woodford in a four-try display.
It was not the way coach Matt Davies would have envisaged bringing the curtain down on their home campaign, as the Highams men struggled to cope with the power of Manor.
The visitors opened the scoring through number eight Gareth Tucker, who smashed his way over the line from the base of a scrum.
A penalty and a drop goal from Greg Anderson sandwiched a Nick Ford penalty, leaving Manor 10 points up at the break.
Ian Edwards cantered over for the away side’s second try after an overthrow from a lineout, before Robert Pound added another.
Anderson, so instrumental with his kicking, then produced the try of the game, selling a series of dummies as he jinked his way over the line.
The hosts scored a consolation try through Niall Moody, but it was too little, too late.
Victorious player and coach Mark Cuschieri said afterwards: “No one needed geeing up for this game, we have worked hard all week in training and have a great team spirit.
“Today was no surprise to us as we have a young talented side. Sometimes sport comes down to how much you want it, and our boys definitely wanted it more today.”
Eton Manor have two home games remaining this season.
They will host Letchworth Garden City on Saturday, before welcoming bottom side Welwyn for their final match of the campaign.
Woodford will travel to Westcliff in two weeks’ time.
Elsewhere, Chingford’s four-game unbeaten streak came to an end at Letchworth, where they were beaten 25-15 at the weekend.
The Waltham Wayers had muscled their way up to fifth in the table, but they weren’t at the races for their penultimate game of the season.
They will have to overcome Bury St Edmunds on April 18 to guarantee fifth.
