ONGAR produced one of their best performances of the season to run league leaders Runwell close at Love Lane.

After a tight first half, the runaway Essex Three champions, who have remained unbeaten this season, could only take a narrow 3-0 lead into the break.

On the resumption the Wywerns scored two tries, one of which was converted.

Ongar finally found a way through with skipper Dave Blake once again adding the final touch. Somehow John Browning missed the extras and a misunderstanding at the kick-off allowed Runwell in for a converted try.

The hosts refused to give up and five minutes from time Browning made amends when he was pushed over from a scrum eight metres out. Steve Everson kicked an excellent conversion.
