Woodford scrum-half Nick Williams releases the ball during the game with Staines (EL7729-9)
Woodford 12
Staines 19
(London Two North)
IN THE final league match of the season Woodford put up an excellent performance against second-in-the-table Staines.
The hosts opened the scoring shortly after the kick-off, when Huw Levis kicked into the visitors goal-area before touching down.
Woodford appeared to have increased their lead, when from a lineout Robbie Connell pounced on a loose ball to score, but the effort was ruled out after claims the home player had move too soon from the line.
That left the score at 5-0 at the break.
The visitors hit-back almost immediately after the interval when they found a gap in the home defence to score a converted try which gave them a 5-7 advantage.
Eventually Staines helped themselves to a second converted try.

Woodford responded well and a move down the right ended with Connell scoring a try that was converted by Levis to close the gap to just two points.
But Staines had the final say in this match with a well-taken try and the hosts just weren't able to hit back this time.
Departing Woodford coach Peter Christey said: "After 16 years with the club it is sad to leave, but I feel it is time to move on and wish everyone at Woodford well for the future.
"Of course it was disappointing not to end with a win, but the lads played very well against a team that have secured a play-off spot this season."
