Spurs boss reveals how he changed the club

TOTTENHAM boss Juande Ramos has described how he has banished all memories of former manager Martin Jol from the club, writes Alex Sexton.

The Spaniard took over the hot-seat at White Hart Lane in October when Spurs were languishing dangerously close to the drop zone.

A swift change of training regime, including a well documented improvement in nutrition, has transformed Spurs from early season relegation candidates to Carling Cup winners.

Ramos told Spanish newspaper El Mundo "We did none of the things that the team was doing before our arrival.

"If they used to train on one pitch and leave through a certain door then we changed the training to another pitch and sent them out through a different door."

"We changed timetables, diet, everything. We wanted them to forget everything from before, like it never existed. When you want to change something, you have to break with routine."

The mass changes had the desired result for Tottenham fans. Just five months after taking charge, the new manager had delivered the club its first trophy since 1999.

Ramos added; "Honestly, I'm happy for the fans more than anything, because in a big club like this one, nine years of winning absolutely nothing had generated a pessimism throughout the entire club that was impossible to measure."

The Wembley triumph over Chelsea guaranteed European football would be returning to the Lane next season and after his controversial sacking at the start of the year, allowed most fans to forget that Dutch bloke who used to manage the team.
