Spurs midfielder sets England U21s on road to victory

TOTTENHAM'S Tom Huddlestone scored a penalty in England U21's 2-0 defeat of Wales U21 at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground yesterday.

Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson was brought down in the area on 19 minutes and Huddlestone stepped up to put England 1-0 up.

The tall midfielder then played a part in England's second five minutes later, as he exchanged passes with Arsenal's Theo Walcott in the corner before the latter fired in after cutting in from the left.

And manager Stuart Pearce tipped five of his youngsters - including Huddlestone - to impress national boss Fabio Capello in the friendlies with the USA and Trinidad and Tobago after the 21-year-old was selected in the full squad.

"We've got a squad of 31 in the seniors and the bottom line is you might lose a couple through injury - it's a perfect opportunity with the two matches to look at one or two of them," said Pearce.

"If any of these get on the pitch they will do themselves credit."
