REPORTS in Italy have suggested that AC Milan could be set to test the water with a cash-plus-player offer for Spurs' prize asset Dimitar Berbatov.

Corriere dello Sport says Milan chiefs Adriano Galliani and Ariedo Braida believe the prolific Bulgarian frontman would be an ideal figure to lead the line at the San Siro.

As a youngster, Berbatov is believed to have supported AC and modelled himself on Marco van Basten before switching his support to Newcastle.

And Milan are fully aware that Berbatov is still to discuss a new contract, and are prepared to table a big cash offer along with White Hart Lane target Dario Simic in their deal.

It was revealed last week that Spurs had attempted to sign the 32-year-old Croatian defender in January.

His agent claimed that AC boss Carlo Ancelotti prevented his client from trying his luck in England earlier this year.

"In January, Ancelotti stopped Simic from moving to England," revealed agent Marko Naletilic.

"There were offers from several British clubs, including Tottenham."
