WEST Ham have been boosted by news that Lucas Neill has only minor damage to his knee.
The 28-year-old righ-back suffered a nightmare comeback against Watford on Saturday, hit by a recurrence of the ankle injury he picked up in his debut just two weeks earlier, and sustaining a knee ligament injury at the same time.
Head Physiotherapist Steve Allen says: "Lucas landed awkwardly on his ankle but also injured his knee at the same time and that was the greater concern for us.
"He underwent an MRI scan on Monday afternoon, which revealed a grade one medial collateral ligament sprain - the least serious level of that particular injury.
"He is now undergoing intensive treatment with the medical staff and I am confident that he won't be sidelined for too long."
Meanwhile, fellow defender Matthew Upson is recovering well from the calf muscle injury he sustained at Aston Villa and is confident of being fit for West Ham's must-win game at Charlton Athletic next Saturday.
