West Ham United defender Winston Reid believes the players will dig deep as they look to get back on the winning trail and climb away from the bottom three.

Dimitri Payet scored a wonder goal to help the Hammers get back into their 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The point ended a barren spell of four defeats in a row and the players got together last week to discuss the situation. Reid has no doubts the Hammers can turn their fortunes around.

He told the club website: “We had a meeting and everyone looked each other in the eye and said we have got to get ourselves out of this and it is not going to be easy, but we have to dig deep.

“You need occasions like that. It is only us, the players on the pitch who can do anything about it but we did our best and got a point.

“We would like to get back out there again but once everyone gets back from international duty we will regroup again and make sure we improve.

“We are not having that much luck at the moment. We are having chances but the ball is not falling our way.

“The main thing is we didn’t lose the game. We had been training hard all week and performance wise it was better than previously.”

In their next two games the Irons face Crystal Palace and Sunderland and the 28-year-old sees no reason why they cannot get more points on the board, turn their season around and climb up the Premier League table.

“We have got a couple of games coming up where hopefully we can get a win and I think the guys just need a bit of luck,” he added.

“It is something we are working hard for and as long as we keep working hard, I’m sure victory will come.”

Michail Antonio’s fine form for the Hammers has once again been rewarded with another call-up to the England squad for their qualifiers against Malta at Wembley on Saturday and Slovenia in Ljubljana on Tuesday.

Antonio has scored five goals in his first seven Premier League games of the season and he will hope to win his first international cap under interim boss Gareth Southgate.

Darren Randolph, James Collins, Angelo Ogbonna, Gokhan Tore and Payet are also set for World Cup qualification duty for their respective European nations.

Randolph will be looking to try and build on the Republic of Ireland’s opening World Cup qualifying 2-2 draw in Serbia when they host Georgia in Dublin before heading to Moldova.

Collins earned his 50th Wales cap in the 4-0 win over Moldova and will hope to add to his tally when his side travel to Austria this evening.

Ogbonna could be involved as Italy host Spain in a mouth-watering Group G clash in his old Juventus home in Turin tonight before they take on FYR Macedonia on Sunday.

Payet’s France host Bulgaria tomorrow before a trip to face the Netherlands on Monday, while Tore’s Turkey are at home to Ukraine tonight and visit Iceland on Sunday.
