West Ham striker Andy Carroll has apologised to manager David Moyes and returned to training following a row over his behaviour when leaving the bench early against Manchester City on Sunday, it is understood.

Carroll, an unused substitute, headed down the tunnel at the London Stadium before the end of the match, which the Hammers lost 4-1.

It is understood the striker refused to apologise for the incident during training on Monday, and was subsequently sent home.

The squad were given Tuesday off, but the striker returned to training again today having apologised to Moyes.

The Irons boss had made a triple substitution against City shortly after seeing his side concede a fourth goal after 64 minutes.

Moyes though, chose to send on Javier Hernandez, Joao Mario and Arthur Masuaku, which led to Carroll deciding to then leave the bench.

Speaking after the match when then incident was raised, Moyes said: "It's something I'll deal with.

"In this situation what you need is everybody to be a team member, so if he (Carroll) has done that, I'll look at it and I'll deal with it."

Following Carroll's apology, it is understood everyone at the club considers the matter settled.

The focus of Moyes and his squad is now firmly on Saturday's Premier League trip to Leicester when West Ham will resume their relegation battle just three points clear of the drop zone.
