Joao Mario got on the scoresheet for Portugal, who surrendered a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Tunisia in an international friendly on Monday.

After Andre Silva had put Portugal ahead in the 22nd minute, Mario doubled the Euro 2016 winners’ advantage with ten minutes of the first half remaining thanks to a superb 20-yard strike which found the top corner.

Anice Badri pulled one back for the visitors five minutes from half time, before Fakhreddine Ben Youssef notched Tunisia’s equaliser mid-way through the second half.

Mario, who spent the second half of the season on loan at West Ham from Inter Milan, played 80 minutes before being replaced by Joao Moutinho. Former Hammer Jose Fonte also featured for Portugal, playing the last half-an-hour.

The Hammers are reportedly keen on signing Mario permanently this summer, after the midfielder scored twice in 14 appearances in all competitions at the London Stadium during the second half of the campaign.

Elsewhere, West Ham’s Javier Hernandez was also in action for Mexico who were held to a goalless draw with Wales in California.

Hernandez played just under an hour before being replaced by Oribe Peralta, in a match which saw Everton’s Ashley Williams limp off with a suspected rib injury for Wales in the first half.

The West Ham striker may face another one of the home nations on Sunday, with Mexico set to continue their preparations for the World Cup with a friendly against Scotland.

Declan Rice didn’t enjoy such good fortunes on his second start for the Republic of Ireland, who lost 2-0 to France in a friendly.

The West Ham youngster started in midfield and played the full 90 minutes as first half goals from Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud and reported Liverpool target Nabil Fekir sealed a comfortable win for France.
