Cheikhou Kouyate will not be a part of the revamped West Ham United squad next season after the 28-year-old midfielder completed his move to London rivals Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee.

The Senegal international, who featured in all three group matches at the World Cup, has signed a four-year contract at Selhurst Park to bring to an end his association with the Hammers.

Originally arriving in the summer of 2014 from Anderlecht, Kouyate went on to make 147 appearances and scored on 15 occasions in all competitions, including the first goal at the London Stadium when West Ham beat NK Domzale in a Europa League qualifier two years ago.

With just a week left of the window, Eagles manager Roy Hodgson has moved to strengthen his midfield after missing out on Jack Wilshere earlier in the summer as the former Arsenal man opted to join the Hammers.

Kouyate’s transfer to south London sees him join up with the only other Palace recruit so far, goalkeeper Vicente Guaita from Getafe, amid rumours of moves for a handful of players including Jordan Ayew and Max Meyer.

Speaking to the Palace website, Kouyate expressed his delight at getting the deal finalised as he prepares to embrace a new project.

He said: “I’m so happy. It’s been a long day but now everything is good and I’m very excited to start with my new team-mates.

“This is the right time to move because I needed a new challenge. I have good memories of West Ham, but I need to come here and give my best because I like the Crystal Palace project.”

Manuel Pellegrini’s side, meanwhile, continue to be linked with a host of targets including Lille midfielder Thiago Maia and Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.
