West Ham United have made a transfer-deadline day swoop to complete an expected deal for Arsenal striker Lucas Perez.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has been out of favour at the Emirates for some time and spent last season on loan at La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna, scoring eight times in 35 league appearances.

Predominantly a winger or attacking midfield player, he becomes Manuel Pellegrini’s latest summer acquisition as the Hammers complete an ambitious summer rebuild that has left fans full of optimism ahead of the new season.

Lucas joins Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko, Fabian Balbuena and Felipe Anderson as new recruits at the London Stadium.

Speaking about his move to east London, Perez told the club website: “I’m very happy to be here at such an historic club.

“I’m very excited, as West Ham are giving me the chance to stay in the Premier League and I’m very happy to be part of this new project.

“West Ham have great fans and play in an amazing stadium, so to sign here brings me great joy. I’m very motivated.”
