ROBERT Green has been called up to the England squad for Wednesday's friendly with France.

The West Ham stopper (pictured) was drafted into Fabio Capello's 23-man set up to replace Wigan's Chris Kirkland, who picked up a back injury in Saturday's defeat at Blackburn.

He is one of three keepers to be travelling to Paris, alongside Portsmouth's David James and Tottenham's Paul Robinson, himself given a late recall to replace the injured Scott Carson.

Green's call up is reward for his fine performances this season.

The 28-year-old has only one international cap to his name, won as a substitute in a friendly against Colombia in May 2005.

However, Hammers team mate Matthew Upson had earlier withdrawn from the squad because of a calf injury.

The defender started in Capello's first game - a 2-1 win over Switzerland - last month.

Other Hammers to be involved in international friendly action next week include youngsters James Tomkins and Freddie Sears, who are both expected to play in England U19's friendly against Russia on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Freddie Ljungberg should captain Sweden in their game with Brazil, George McCartney is expected to win his 20th cap for Northern Ireland against Georgia, and John Pantsil is likely to play for Ghana against Mexico at Fulham FC's Craven Cottage.

Meanwhile, the only two Hammers involved in competitive action are Lucas Neill, for Australia in China, and Jack Collison, for Wales U21 in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
