WEST Ham are reportedly keen to bolster their striking options with the signing of exciting 21-year-old prospect Edison Cavani.

The Uruguayan youngster signed for Serie A side Palermo last year and has scored seven goals in 40 appearances.

His performances which appear to have caught the eye of the east London club, who may make their move in the coming weeks.

The forward recently scored on his international debut in his country's 2-2 draw against Columbia and was the top scorer in the South American U20 youth championships in 2007.

It appears likely that the player was brought to the attention of the club by new technical director Gianluca Nani, who recently joined from Italian club Brescia and will have been monitoring Cavani's development first-hand.

Nani is credited with aiding the development of Bayern Munich star Luca Toni during his career on the continent and is responsible for overseeing the club's productive transfer strategy and youth academy.
