A moment of class by Mark Noble put West Ham on course for a 2-0 opening-day win at Wolves.

Noble stunned Mick McCarthy's Premier League new-boys on 22 minutes, when he fired the Hammers ahead from 25 yards.

The curling shot buried itself in the top corner.

Nenad Milijas looked a threat for Wolves, with two long range efforts.

But skipper Matthew Upson sealed three points for West Ham when he headed home from a corner on 69 minutes.

That ended the game as a contest.

Afterwards, Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola said: "I think it was excellent, we won away from home and played a good game.

There's a a few things we need to improve but for a first game, it was very encouraging.

"We knew the beginning was going to be tough, but the team prepared well and faced danger."
