LIVERPOOL are set to make a renewed effort to sign West Ham striker Carton Cole in January, according to Sky Sports News.

It is understood a representative from the Anfield club was present during the Hammers' 3-1 win over Fulham on Boxing Day, when Cole was on the scoresheet twice.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson tried to sign the 27-year-old in the summer transfer window but a deal was not agreed between the two clubs.

However, it now appears he will return to the West Ham hitman as a partner for Fernando Torres is sought.

Irons owners David Gold and David Sullivan are thought to be willing to listen to offers between £7-9million.
