Curbs has turned it around
TODAY is the first anniversary of Alan Curbishley's time in charge at the club and what a strange year it has been.
There have been a lot of changes and he's brought in his own ideas.
Either the players like that or they don't, but he's ideas are something the boys obviously like because things have been turned around and we are going really well.
He has also backed me and it is always good when you have that support of your manager.
But what I can achieve in the game is in my own hands and I want to really concentrate on playing football - that is what I love to do.
That is why I can't wait to get back out there and show people what I can do. My recovery from injury is going good and I'm finally back in training, although I'm not fit for the weekend. Hopefully though, I'll be fit for the following week against Middlesborough.
To help me with the injury, like a few of the boys, I've been having pilates lessons with an Australian guy, Skippy. It helps with the core strength which can protect against all manner of injuries.
But, even when I do get fit, it will be difficult to break back into the side because the boys had another great result at Blackburn on Saturday. Ewood Park is always a hard place to go and get the win but it shows how far we've come.
Dean Ashton obviously got the winner and he is starting to look good. He can get back to his best but only time will tell how long that will take.
He has an aura about him on the pitch, can hold the ball up, is great in the air and, importantly, can score goals.
He is also one of several of the boys looking to get into the England squad but first and foremost we have to concentrate on doing well for West Ham. If our names are then picked out for the national squad on the back of good performances for the club, then so be it.
It is important that they first help the club carry on winning and that is our aim at the moment - to just win as many games as possible.
Only after Christmas and probably the end of January will we be able to set our sights - a top half finish would be a good foundation - because it is stillearly days in the season and there is still plenty to play for.
And we've first got the small matter of Everton twice in a matter of days. It's difficult to play the same side twice in three days and, while they're completely different games it is important to win the first game so that you have that edge for the second.
I would chose getting into the semi final over the league at this stage because it is a quick route into Europe and a chance to play at Wembley. There is nothing like playing in a major final. There are a lot of great players who never get that chance which is why I'm happy to have played in the FA Cup final. Hopefully there will be a lot more to come.
Everteon are a good side and have done well since David moyes took charge - they're in Europe consistently and are always up there in the league.
That is an achievement that we are definately looking to emulate and we're going on the right track.
