Newcastle v West Ham

9:08am Friday 21st September 2007

By Guardian-series »

Sunday, September 23, kick-off 3pm.

LAST TIME AT ST JAMES PARK: Newcastle 2 West Ham 2 (Prem Lge 20-01-2007)

HEAD-TO-HEAD: Newcastle 46, West Ham 36, draws 33.

FORM: The Magpies started the season unbeaten in their first four league matches and won their opening Carling Cup match against Barnsley under new boss Sam Allardyce.

But defeat away to Premier League minnows Derby on Monday has left Newcastle reeling and they will be keen to make amends in front of their home fans.

West Ham have not won at St James' Park since 1998, although their last two visits resulted in draws.

DANGER MAN: Two words... Michael Owen.

After an injury plagued start to his Toon career, every Englishman is pleased to see Owen hitting the back of the net for club and country. The England hitman scored as Newcastle beat Barnsley and Wigan in their last two home games, and was on the scoresheet three times for the national side in last week's Euro 2008 qualifiers with Israel and Russia.

FUN FACT: Comedy duo Ant and Dec, otherwise known as PJ and Duncan from Byker Grove, are both big fans of their home town club.

The cheeky Geordies have demonstrated their football prowess by scoring past David Seaman on their show Saturday Night Takeaway.

PREDICTION: Newcastle 2 West Ham 1
