West Ham United have jumped into the race to sign Parma midfielder Marco Parolo, according to Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset.

The 29-year-old Italian is currently with the national team in Brazil, which means any transfer of the player will not be formalised until after his return from the World Cup.

Parma initially set an asking price of €8m, but the Serie A club are hoping that an impressive display in Brazil will raise the fee to nearer €10m.

The Hammers are looking to steal ahead of Lazio, who are reported to be unwilling to match Parma’s demands for the central midfielder.

Parolo appeared 36 times in Serie A last season and come on as a second half substitute in Italy’s opening group match against England.
