West Ham United have completed the capture of Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan deal.

Jenkinson, 22, joins the Hammers until the end of the 2014/15 season; just days after Sam Allardyce confirmed the club’s interest in the right-back.

A one-cap England international, Jenkinson began his professional career at Charlton Athletic, before joining the Gunners in 2011 for a fee believed to be in the region of £1m.

Since then, the Harlow-born defender has been a regular in Arsene Wenger’s matchday squad, selected on 33 occasions last term, making 14 Premier League outings in the process.

The 6ft defender, who can also operate at centre-back, made just eight Football League appearances for the Addicks before Arsenal snapped him up.

Born to an English father and a Swede-Finnish mother, Jenkinson represented Finland at Under-19 and Under-21 level before making the switch to represent England.

In 2012, Jenkinson won his one and only England cap to date, coming on as a substitute in a 4-2 friendly defeat in Sweden.

The energetic full-back also boasts European experience, having made 14 appearances for the North Londoners in the UEFA Champions League.

Jenkinson becomes Sam Allardyce’s sixth summer addition after Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyate, Aaron Cresswell, Diego Poyet and Enner Valencia.
