West Ham United will take on La Liga side Malaga this afternoon for the right to lift the Schalke 04 Cup in Gelsenkirchen.

The Hammers reached this afternoon's final clash in Germany by beating hosts Schalke 04 7-6 on penalties following a goalless draw at the Veltins-Arena yesterday (Saturday).

Veteran goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen proved the hero for the Irons, saving spot kicks from Felipe Santana and Axel Borgmann to seal West Ham's progress to the final.

James Collins, Ricardo Vaz Te, Elliott Lee, Diego Poyet, Joey O'Brien, Dan Potts and Seb Lletget scored for the Hammers, who took two points from the group stage thanks to their shoot-out triumph.

Boss Sam Allardyce picked a competitive team, whilst resting the likes of Adrian, Winston Reid, Mark Noble and Matt Jarvis, with the quartet pencilled in for starting berths in today's final.

Final opponents Malaga, who were in the UEFA Champions League as recently as 2013, secured their final place with a 3-1 win over Premier League side Newcastle United.

Sergi Darder and Samu Castillejo (2) got the goals for Malaga, with Gabriel Obertan scoring Newcastle's consolation.
