Stewart Downing's two-year England exile is over after the West Ham United midfielder was included in Roy Hodgon's squad to face Slovenia and Scotland later this month.

The 30-year-old, who has thrived in a central attacking role with the Hammers this term, won his last England cap in a friendly against Norway in May 2012.

Downing was included in Hodgson's squad for the 2012 European Championships in Austria and Switzerland, but did not make an appearance for the Three Lions.

Speaking about his decision to include the former Liverpool man in his 26-strong squad, Hodgson said: "Downing has had a real surge of form and in a slightly enlarged squad, it's time to invite him back and see what he can do."

Downing has won a total of 34 England caps since making his debut in 2005, but has never scored for his country.

England face Slovenia in a 2016 European Championships qualifier on Saturday, November 15, before taking on Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday, November 18.

On-loan Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has been included in Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 squad.

The full-back will hope to be involved as the young Lions take on Portugal at Turf Moor on Thursday, November 13, before travelling to Brittany to face France on Monday, November 17.
