Davidson Owumi, chief executive at Nigerian side Warri Wolves, has confirmed West Ham United are interested in defender Azubuike Egwuekwe
The Hammers are on the lookout for a defender with Winston Reid expected to leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
And Egwuekwe is understood to have attracted the interest of the Premier League club. The 25-year-old reportedly wants to move on from Nigeria and the chance to join the Hammers is likely to appeal.
Warri Wolves CEO Davidson Owumi, speaking on Nigerian website SL10.ng, said: ''We don't like revealing contractual information until we have concluded negotiations.
"It may affect the player's career. Warri Wolves are a professional club.
''West Ham are interested and there was a bid from them. When talks are concluded, we will inform the public.
''There is division of labour at Warri Wolves. People are handling the matter and when they are through, they will bring the file to my table to approve. The board will be informed of the transfer, the transaction is ongoing.''
