Charges of assault against Premier League footballer Ravel Morrison have been dropped.

The West Ham midfielder, 21, was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend Reah Mansoor, 19, and her mother Parveen Mansoor, 39, following a night out in Manchester city centre on July 27.

The player, of Urmston in Trafford, denied all three counts of common assault and was due to stand trial at Manchester Crown Court later this month.

But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped the charges yesterday after Morrison's defence team found CCTV footage of the first alleged assault outside the One Central nightclub.

Prosecutor Guy Mathieson, said the CCTV showed that he had not hit his ex-girlfriend, but she could be seen "falling, or slumping to the floor" before Morrison helps to put her in his car.

A CPS spokeswoman said: "The CPS has discontinued the prosecution against Ravel Morrison for one charge of causing actual bodily harm and two charges of common assault at Manchester Crown Court.

"After reviewing the case in detail, in consultation with counsel and police, the CPS concluded that as the complainant had earlier withdrawn support for the prosecution and there was no additional evidence to support the prosecution case, there was no longer sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction for any of the charges against the defendant."

In November, Mr Morrison was cleared of threatening to throw acid in the face of his ex-girlfriend and have her killed.

The CPS also withdrew the allegation he harassed Ms Mansoor over a four year period.

Morrison was sold to West Ham by Manchester United in January 2012 for £650,000 and has played on loan for QPR and Birmingham City.

He is currently back with West Ham after a loan spell with Cardiff City, but his contract at Upton Park expires in the summer.
