West Ham United Sam Allardyce has been frustrated by his side's lack of goals in recent games and hopes to end a torrid run by finishing the season strongly, starting with victory at home to Burnley on Saturday.

Having been fourth at Christmas and above the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, the Hammers now find themselves languishing in the bottom half, and have won just two matches in 2015.

And Allardyce is frustrated his side could not build on the momentum created in the first half of the season.

He said: “The true fact of the matter is that we should have nailed our best finish for many years a long time ago, and we don’t want to be disappointed at the end of the season.”

And referring to last week’s 0-0 draw with 19th place Queens Park Rangers, he said: “We’ve been a little short on goals so we need that clean sheet that we got last week and to take our chances.”

That lack of goals has led Allardyce’s side to be linked with a move for several strikers this summer, including Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and Marseille’s André-Pierre Gignac.

West Ham have won just once in 13 games, and their last away win came on December 2, a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

But Allardyce urged his players not to be lulled into an end of season dreariness.

He said: “Players always need to do the best they possibly can, because as soon as you don’t reach that you come under pressure.”

He also likened Sean Dyche’s side to last weekend’s opponents.

“They play a similar way to QPR, 4-4-2, so we’ve got to cover their strengths and exploit their weaknesses.”

And Allardyce confirmed there are no new injury concerns for his squad but that James Tomkins, Guy Demel, Doneil Henry, Diafro Sakho and Andy Carroll are all still out.

There will be another start for young defender Reece Burke, who made his debut in last weekend’s draw at Loftus Road.

The Hammers will be hoping for a repeat fixture of October’s match, when Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia and Carlton Cole scored the goals in a 3-1 victory at Turf Moor.
