West Ham United duo Enner Valencia and Cheikhou Kouyate were both in action for their countries last week in the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying respectively.

Striker Valencia made an appearance for Ecuador in the South American tournament’s opening game against Chile on Friday morning, with the hosts winning 2-0.

And Kouyate helped his Senegal side to a 3-1 victory over Burundi on Saturday to get their 2017 qualifying campaign off to a winning start.

Valencia was largely a bystander during the first half against Chile but sprung into action in the second, shooting wide after a cross from Swansea City’s Jefferson Montero.

But Juventus man Arturo Vidal scored from the spot and former Queens Park Rangers loanee Eduardo Vargas grabbed a second to give Chile the victory.

Ecuador tonight (Monday) face Bolivia in Group A.

Kouyate’s Senegal were always likely to be winners against minnows Burundi, but were made to work for the result after Fiston Abdul Rasak equalised following Swiss side FC Sion’s Moussa Konte had opened the scoring.

Stoke City’s Mame Biram Diouf got the Lions of Teranga back on track and Southampton’s Saido Mane sealed the win. The Senegalese next take on Namibia in September.
