West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan is reportedly subject of an audacious offer from former club Bolton Wanderers.

With one year left on his contract with the Hammers, the Trotters are ready to offer the 33-year-old a return to Lancashire, according to the Daily Mirror.

His career with the Trotters spanned 12 years and included 296 games and 40 goals before a £4 million move to Newcastle United in 2009.

A regular under Sam Allardyce following a move to Upton Park, Nolan began to fall out of favour last term and could now find himself surplus to requirements under new boss Slaven Bilic.

However, if the clubs are going to hammer out a deal a major stumbling block needs to be overcome – his wages.

The Championship club would struggle to match Nolan’s current £50,000-a-week pay packet and would need the east Londoners to subsidise his contract should he refuse any less.
