West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic was given the perfect start to Premier League management with a shock 2-0 win over title hopefuls Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday but insists it they have achieved nothing yet.

The Croatian praised every member of his squad and felt his side fully deserved their three points, but refused to get too carried away. He said: “Today, we got all three and I can’t fault the players at all. It’s a great start for us, but it’s only a start.”

The win was the Hammers' first over the Gunners since April 2007, ending a run of 15 games without victory and ten straight Arsenal wins.

A first-half header from Cheikhou Kouyate and a second half strike from Argentine forward Mauro Zarate were enough to hand Bilic the best possible start to his West Ham career.

Bilic continued: “At half-time I said some good things but I said ‘ok, we are winning guys, but if we are going to be like that we have to improve’.

"The team performance in the second half was magnificent, from the goalkeeper to Modibo (Maiga) who came on for the last few minutes.”

Bilic handed a shock Premier League debut to 16-year-old midfielder Reece Oxford, making him the youngest ever player for them in the Premier League.

And a composed performance saw the England Under-17 international complete 95 per cent of his passes, catching the eye for the Hammers.

Bilic said of the teenager's composed display: “It was going to be a risk but he has got something. I thought we needed someone to sit in front of the defence who is cool and can be a third defender, but who can also play on the ball. I am very proud of him”.

The Hammers boss went further: "If (Lionel) Messi was in front of me, I'd be more fazed than Reece."
