West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic says he will not panic after his side lost 2-1 at home to Leicester City on Saturday, stating it is not uncommon for the Hammers to lose after an impressive win.

Bilic’s side were a shadow of the team that comfortably outplayed Arsenal at the Emirates a week previously, with the euphoria of an emphatic away win at their London rivals cancelled out by defeat at home to Claudio Ranieri’s side.

Speaking to the club website, Bilic said: “We are not going to panic, we knew what we had before the game.

“For West Ham it is not that uncommon to beat Arsenal and then lose the next match. After a great start we knew that it was going to be a difficult and tough game, every game is a tough one.”

He continued: “We weren’t good enough at winning second balls and dealing with long balls.

“Leicester were getting all of them, there are plenty of those situations in a football game, and if you lose the majority of them then it is impossible to win.”

West ham controlled a large stake of the first half proceedings, but a lively start soon turned into disaster for the Hammers as Adrian parried a volley from Shinji Okazaki back into the striker’s path to bundle home the opener.

The second blow soon followed as Marc Albrighton set up Riyad Mahrez to score his second in as many Premier League games for the Foxes.

After the interval the Hammers came out with more purpose and were able to pull a goal back through French international Dimitri Payet, who struck past Kasper Schmeichel into the top corner from inside the penalty area.

With West Ham pressing for an equaliser Schmeichel kept out several West Ham chances, including one from Diafra Sakho late on.

Referee Anthony Taylor added insult to injury late on by controversially sending off goalkeeper Adrian in injury time for a high boot on Jamie Vardy.
