Mauro Zarate claims a top four finish for West Ham United is a possibility this season but believes a push for the Premier League title is beyond the east Londoners.

Slaven Bilic's side have made their best start to the Premier League season after ten games and currently find themselves third in the league standings following a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Upton Park on Saturday.

Zarate insists that despite their lofty position near the top of the table the Hammers will not be getting carried away and acknowledged how difficult it would be to maintain that position over 38 games.

The Argentine told ESPN: “We can’t dream about winning the title. We must be realistic, we want to finish the championship being as high as possible in the table.

"At the moment we are in third position and what we want to is finish among the first four but it’s a very difficult task”.

Zarate scored the opener on Saturday as West Ham added champions Chelsea to their impressive collection of scalps this season, a list which includes away wins at Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The goal was the 100th of Zarate’s career goal, a milestone he had been unaware of until it was pointed out to him.

He said: “I was told by the guy that updates my personal website that with the goal that I scored against Chelsea I reached 100 goals in my career.

"For a striker, that is something really important. It was very nice to score a goal that helped the team to win against such an important team”.
