West Ham United attacker Dimitri Payet has been ruled out for three months with an anle injury following a scissor tackle by Everton's James McCarthy on Saturday.

The Frenchman, who is the Hammers' top scorer in the Premier League with five goals from 12 starts, has been ruled out until the new year according to Jack Sullivan, son of West Ham co-owner David Sullivan.

Speaking to Sky Sports following Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Everton, Bilic said: "I saw it was a foul from behind and they made a few of them.

"We had our player injured and we don't know how bad it is, but it was bad enough for him not to finish the game.

"It is a big blow for us. Payet is our main player with the ball and I am not happy with the injury."

However, the Croatian would not speculate on the condition of the former Marseille man and speaking on Monday, he told the club's website: “I don't want to talk about the latest news until we see the scan.

"The latest can be very different to what the real news is so I would prefer to wait until we have the results of their scans.

“It doesn't look good. The first one on Dimitri was a bad challenge, the second one was on Enner Valencia's ankle although he did get the ball."

Payet has been a revelation at Upton Park since his £13 million switch from Ligue 1 and has three assists to add to his five Premier League goals.
