Twenty-two attempts on goal were not enough for West Ham United to find a way past Stoke City as they drew 0-0 at Upton Park in the Premier League.

The Potters had the better of the first half but Slaven Bilic’s side passed up a plethora of opportunities after the break to extend their winless run to six games.

Chelsea loanee Marco van Ginkel had the Potters’ best first-half chance, firing wide from close range.

Marko Arnautovic was a menace throughout for the visitors, hitting the bar with a free-kick which deflected off of Cheikhou Kouyate from 25 yards in the second period.

Aaron Cresswell almost got lucky with a whipped cross from the left which was caught in the wind and brought a fingertip save from Jack Butland.

Mame Biram Diouf replied for Stoke, bringing a smart stop out of Adrian who blocked well with his feet from the Senegalese’s low shot.

Mauro Zarate then hit the woodwork for the Hammers, darting across the penalty area before shooting low off the post with Butland beaten.

The impish Argentine picked up the loose ball and crossed for Andy Carroll who helped the ball on for Enner Valencia to nod against the other post.

Stoke still retained a threat, though, and when Arnautovic picked out the run of Diouf he was again denied by Adrian one-on-one.

Yet West Ham almost nicked a win with the last action of the game.

A corner was hooked back into the middle by James Tomkins where Kouyate eventually saw his header punched over the bar by Butland.
