Dimitri Payet has progressed through to the quarter finals at Euro 2016 after defeating Republic of Ireland 2-1.

The French national team conceded early against the Irish as they went in front in the second minute through a Robbie Brady penalty.

Les Bleus struggled to get going in the first half but came out with a new lease of life in the second as they levelled in the 58th minute through Antoine Griezmann.

Three minutes later Griezmann struck again and scored passed Hammers keeper Darren Randolph for the second time.

France will now go onto face the winners of England v Iceland on Sunday, July 3 at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis.

Wales also triumphed in their round of 16 as they won 1-0 against the Northern Ireland due to a Gareth McAuley own goal.

James Collins, who has yet to make an appearance in the tournament, will face Belgium on Friday, July 1 after Belgium beat Slovakia 4-0.
