Angelo Ogbonna's Italy produced a tactically superior display to end Spain’s quest for a third consecutive European Championship.

The Azzurri beat Spain 2-0 with goals from Giogio Chiellini and Graziano Pelle to ensure Italy progressed to play the World Champions Germany in the quarter final.

Ogbonna was on the bench for the full 90 minutes after making an impressive effort against the Republic of Ireland.

Italy ended a five run matches against the Spanish without a win and defeated them for the first time since August 2011.

The Italians have also never lost to the Germans at a major finals but they will be without the suspended Thiago Motta after he received a yellow card.

The quarter final takes place on Saturday, July 2 kicking off at 8pm kick off at the Nouveau Stade Bordeaux.
