Davenport fractures bone in his neck

9:41am Tuesday 22nd January 2008

WEST Ham defender Calum Davenport broke a bone in his neck during the opening match of a loan spell with Watford.

The 25-year-old, who was on a month-long loan deal with the Championship side, fell awkwardly during the Hornet's 1-1 draw with Charlton on Saturday.

He was rushed to Watford General Hospital for emergency treatment, where he will remain under observation for a few days.

A Watford club spokesman said: "X-rays and scans showed that although he was safe to be moved, he would stay in a private hospital overnight where he could be kept under observation.

"Watford have been in close contact with West Ham since the incident and would like to thank them for their co-operation in this matter."

Davenport, a £3 million signing from Spurs last year, was in his first game back since suffering a hernia in March.
