Hammers star should be fit to face Sunderland

HERITA Ilunga has confirmed that he should be fit for Sunday's Premier League trip to Sunderland.

The DR Congo international left-back was withdrawn midway through the second half of Saturday's goalless draw with Portsmouth after injuring his foot in a challenge with ex-Hammer Glen Johnson.

However, the popular defender has told his online blog that, following a night of treatment, he expects to be available for selection at the Stadium of Light.

"Herita went out from the match yesterday after one hour of game," said the blog.

"In fact, his leg was touched by Johson (not his mistake) so he was not able to run anymore.

"He has slept with keeping his foot in ice, that is the reason why he is better today.

"So he doesn't think that the injury is going to be too serious.

"He is happy that they don't lost yesterday but he had prefer to win. Maybe next sunday."

Ilunga, who has become a cult hero at Upton Park following a series of buccaneering performances down the left flank, was expected to be back in training at Chadwell Heath this morning.

There, he was joined by England forward Kieron Dyer, who is continuing his comeback from a broken leg.
