WEST HAM are ready to bid £3million for Stoke striker James Beattie to solve their attacking crisis, according to reports.

The Sun claim new owners David Gold and David Sullivan are prepared to swoop for the out-of-favour hitman, who had a furious bust-up with Potters boss Tony Pulis after a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in December.

The Hammers are still sweating on the fitness of Carlton Cole, who has been out of action since November with a knee injury. Zavon Hines and Kieron Dyer have also been struggling with injuries.

Gold told the Sun: “I'd be hugely disappointed if we did not bring in a striker before the window closes.

“But it would have to be someone of quality or there is no point.”

West Ham are believed to have come close to signing former Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, before the Dutchman plumped for German side Hamburg.

Blackburn Rovers frontman Benni McCarthy and Tottenham's Robbie Keane are also thought to be on the radar for the new owners.
