WEST HAM'S reserves were edged out 1-0 by fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly on Tuesday.
Full-back Adam Smith scored the only goal of the game, with the Hammers giving a number of youngsters a run out. Among the numbers were striker Frank Nouble, who has just returned from a loan spell at Championship high-fliers West Bromwich Albion, and Matt Fry, who was welcomed back into the fold after a knee injury.
Nouble spurned a couple of good goalscoring opportunities, but showed plenty of signs that his recent stint in the Championship had served him well. Jordan Spence donned the captain's armband for the night.
Alex Dyer's team's next competitive game is against Arsenal next Monday in the Premier Reserve League South.
