WEST HAM have confirmed they have reach a mutual agreement to terminate the contract of defender Calum Davenport.
The centre-half had returned to training after recovering from being stabbed in both legs by his sister's boyfriend. But the club and the player have agreed to part ways, as he seeks to rebuild his career at another club.
A statement on the club's website read: “After a traumatic period of time for the player, it was felt that it would be in his best interests to allow him an opportunity to put past events behind him and restart his career afresh.”
Davenport, who is believed to have earned £16,000 a week at West Ham, is due to stand trial for assaulting his sister Cara at Luton Crown Court in August.
The Hammers were ordered to resume paying Davenport's wages after they had stopped payments in the wake of the incident.
