Chelsea clash is poor timing for boss as Upton Park sack rumours mount (From East London and West Essex Guardian Series)

A BAD start to the season for West Ham could be transformed if Chelsea leave Upton Park pointless, this weekend.

But the visit of boss Avram Grant’s former club could not come at a worse time from winless West Ham.

Being bottom of the Premier League without a point from three games has this week sparked speculation about the manager’s grip on the job.

Reports emerged that the two Davids in charge of the Hammers have delivered an ultimatum to Grant.

He will be sacked as boss if there is no clear improvement in the next three games, according to rumours.

Carlo Ancelotti’s free-scoring Chelsea is the first of that trio crunch match upon which hangs Grant’s future at the club.

So he must hope the uneasy owners do not focus on Saturday’s result more than the performance of his misfiring team.

This week, crocked midfielder Jack Collison has come out in support of Grant.

“We're all trying to impress him and it's a clean slate, he's an experienced man," said Collison, who is recovering from a knee injury.

"You never know (about the rumours) but we want to look forward rather than behind us. The boys are working hard and we are upbeat and positive.”

Grant has moved to quell the worries of fans and rally support ahead of the Chelsea match.

“The most important thing is that they are behind the team” he said.

“The supporters are good and we will try our best to make them happy.

"I must say, everyone in the club is trying to do their best."
