West Ham boss Sam Allardyce criticised his side after another late goal sent them to a 1-0 home defeat to Ipswich Town last night.

The Hammers have conceded late efforts against Cardiff, Aldershot and Leeds United at Upton Park already this season and the Championship favourites were again punished at the death when Lee Bowyer netted an 89th minute winner.

Allardyce said: “I thought we’d learnt our lesson and clearly we haven’t done. I keep trying to tell the players to respect the point and how important it is because coming off a 0-0 would have been good because I didn’t think we were at our best particularly in the first half.

"But that glitch in our play has popped up again and all the fans will say ‘here we go again, Cardiff, Leeds United and now Ipswich’.

“We can ill afford to throw away points as early as this [in the season] and more importantly at Upton Park. That’s four points thrown away in the final minutes of the game on three occasions so we really have to eradicte that.

“We have to make those points up away from home and while we’ve been magnificent in terms of our results away we won’t always keep go and winning them.

"So if we want to go where we want to go this isn’t good enough. Those two losses and the draw against Leeds have all been down to our lack of understanding and determination in the last minute of the game."
