West Ham United missed the chance to close the gap on Championship leaders Southampton after losing 2-1 at home to Burnley.
The Hammers looked on course to leapfrog the Saints after taking the lead on 52 minutes when skipper Kevin Nolan lobbed in the opener.
But the Irons were pegged back when Chris McCann headed in the equaliser five minutes later.
West Ham pushed for the winner but paid the penalty when they conceded a second goal 15 minutes from time after Sam Vokes headed home a corner.
