Hammers defender a £6m target for Spurs

WEST Ham defender Anton Ferdinand is a £6 million transfer target for bitter rivals Spurs, according to media sources.

It is the second time the north Londoners have made an approach for the 23-year-old after former boss Martin Jol had a £4 million offer rejected by the Irons.

However, new Lilywhites boss Juande Ramos is looking to tighten up his leaky defence and is desperate to find a suitable replacement for injury-prone Ledley King and underperforming Younes Kaboul.

As such, the Spaniard is believed to be willing to up the offer to take Ferdinand to White Hart Lane.

His bid may prove a tempting offer for Irons boss Alan Curbishley.

Ferdinand has struggled with off the field problems in the past 18 months. A series of niggling injuries has also restricted him to just 21 Premier League starts this season.

And, having been told to slash the club's wage bill and with six centre halves on the books - as well as the emergence of highly-promising Academy graduate James Tomkins - Ferdinand may be seen as an ideal candidate for the exit door.
