A refuse truck driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following an incident which left a police motorcyclist dead, officers confirmed.
The police rider, who has not yet been named, was hit by the waste lorry while he was on duty in Sheffield on Friday.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said the incident happened at about 1.30pm on Prince of Wales Road, between the Sheffield Parkway and Main Road, in the Darnall area of the city.
He said the arrested driver, who is a 31-year-old man, was being held for questioning in Sheffield.
The stretch of road where the collision happened was closed for a number of hours while investigations took place.
