Deportivo La Coruna have accepted an offer from Newcastle for striker Xisco.
The Spanish side also confirmed the striker is in talks with the Barclays Premier League club.
A Depor spokesman would not reveal the fee but told PA Sport that 22-year-old Xisco was in negotiations with Newcastle with a view to completing his move before the transfer window closes at midnight.
Earlier, Depor coach Miguel Angel Lotina admitted he was resigned to losing the Spanish Under-21 striker.
"Today I was told that there are a lot of possibilities that he will go to Newcastle," Lotina told radio station Onda Cero.
"He is an important player but the offer which Newcastle made must also have been important.
"Moreover, he has only two years left on his contract and, it is obvious, that if he doesn't renew, he'll go.
"I don't have confirmation that it has been done, but an offer exists."
Meanwhile the Magpies have signed Valencia midfielder Ignacio "Nacho" Gonzalez on loan until the end of the season.
Uruguayan international Gonzalez, who only signed a four-year deal at the Mestalla on Monday morning, has spent the last six months on loan at Monaco from his parent club Danubio.
